Older homes and big trees are lovely to live with, but they give pests more places to hide. If you're in one of Ashmore's older homes, a few small jobs around the house will help any treatment last longer. Trim branches back off the roof and gutters so rats can't use them as a bridge. Keep garden mulch and pot plants a little away from the walls. And if you notice any gaps around pipes or under doors, it's worth sealing them up.

When we come out, we'll point out anything we notice that's letting pests in, and treat the roof void, the outside of the house and the inside where pests are hiding. We don't try to sell you things you don't need.

Living close to Southport and the busier roads also means plenty of bins and shops nearby, which keeps rats well fed. If you hear scratching in the ceiling at night, it's worth getting onto it early before they settle in and start chewing.
